Actors… you can’t just look at your casting profile through the lens of an actor.
I know I harp on this ALL the time, but your casting profile is your most important sales tool.
It is how you’re choosing to present yourself and market yourself as an actor.Â
What do we discover when we look at our casting profiles through the lens of… A casting director or your representation.
The quick client story that I share in the video above!
I have this one client, he totally rocks. When we first started working together he told me comedy was his THING.
We dove into his casting profile to take stock of what materials he was currently using… and…. there’s NO COMEDY.
In his headshots, he’s mean-mugging and brooding. In his reel material, all of his footage is dramatic.
So if I didn’t know who he was and seeing his casting profile was my first impression of him… I would not think comedy is his THING. I honestly would probably think he wasn’t that good at it because he chose not to feature it.
If I’m a casting director and I’m looking at your profile for the first time not ever knowing who you are and I have no introduction to you besides THIS – what would I think you’re good at? What type of storyteller would I think you are?
Or, if I’m your rep and I’m pitching you on a project saying, “He’s so great at comedy, comedy is his THING. And then I send a profile without any comedy reel material and all dramatic photos – it’s not giving them the evidence they need to know that’s who you are.Â
Your casting profile needs to:
Showcase the things you think you’re really good at! People who don’t know who you are…. get this sales package and this is what they think YOU think you’re good at.
Give proof and evidence of the type of storyteller you WANT to be. If you want to do comedy, there NEEDS to be some comedy footage on your reel. If you really love sci-fi films, give me some sci-fi material.
Spoonfeed casting directors with your strengths. Put your strengths on a silver platter and serve it up! Also – this is giving your rep the spoon to help them spoon-feed casting directors as well! Think about how impactful it is if they say you’re really good at comedy and then have the great comedy clips on your profile to send over to back up their pitch.Â
So, please ask yourself…
Does your casting profile:
Reflect who you are as a storyteller?
Does it reflect your strengths as an actor?
Does it give the evidence needed to SELL YOU the best that you could be sold?
If you were a casting director who’s never met you before, what would you think you’re good at? What types of content would you think you wanted to get cast in? What types of characters are being showcased in the materials you’re presenting?
If you were your rep trying to pitch you on the phone... does your profile back up the way you would want to be pitched as the proof and evidence of what you’re good at? Or is it not at all in line with how you think you should be pitched?
If your casting profile is a hot mess and you would love some help in re-designing it to sell you in a way that makes you feel confident and excited – THIS is exactly what I do with my clients.
We design a casting profile based on the characters you could get cast as TOMORROW and serve them up to casting directors. Not to mention, your rep will thank you forever and ever because you just made their job 1000x easier. OR if you’re looking for rep – make a really great first impression and make it hard for them to say no to meeting with you because your casting profile is ON POINT.
Your casting profile is something that’s in your control and your MOST IMPORTANT tool at your disposal to get auditions and capture the attention of casting directors – let’s make it ✨ shine ✨
